The Watch Never Ends

What a bird in a cornhole board taught me about a mother’s love

There’s a moment in our living room that most people would overlook.

Burchy is asleep on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, catching a rare moment to rest. Outside the window, just beyond the blinds, two birds have been working—flying back and forth, building a nest inside the hole of a cornhole board.

But this time… one of them isn’t flying.

It’s sitting still.

Peeking out.

Watching.

Guarding what it’s building.

And that’s when it hit me.

It’s Not Just About Building

We often think the work is in the building.

The gathering.
The effort.
The constant movement.

But there comes a point where the work shifts.

From building…
To protecting.

From doing…
To watching.

That bird, sitting in that small opening, isn’t resting.

It’s on watch.

A Life Built the Same Way

Inside, on that couch, is someone who has lived that same rhythm for years.

Burchy has built a home—not just in structure, but in spirit.

A place where our family feels safe.
A place where love shows up daily.
A place where growth happens.

She’s carried in piece after piece over the years…

Time.
Energy.
Patience.
Sacrifice.

And now?

Even when she rests… she’s still watching.

The Quiet Strength of a Mother

Because that’s what mothers do.

They build.
They protect.
They stay alert—even when no one sees it.

There’s a quiet strength in that.

No applause.
No spotlight.

Just consistency.
Just presence.
Just love that doesn’t turn off.

What Most People Miss

Most people would look at this moment and see:

A nap on the couch.
A bird in a board.

But if you slow down…

You see something deeper.

You see two worlds doing the same thing.

One outside the window.
One inside the home.

Both building something that matters.

Both protecting what they’ve built.

What I See

I don’t just see a bird peeking out of a nest.

I see responsibility.

I see awareness.

I see purpose.

And I don’t just see someone resting on the couch.

I see years of love poured into a family.
I see strength.
I see sacrifice.
I see someone who never truly stops watching over the people she loves.

Because the truth is…

The work may slow down.

The pace may change.

But the watch?

The watch never ends.

Happy Mother’s Day Burchy!

We Love You To Infinity

❤️♾️😘
